Homer & Jethro
A year or few ago I was came across a vinyl LP of Homer and Jethro but never got to listen to it as I no longer have turntable input. Just after YouTube arrived in The Shack, Pa Coates advised me not to forget Homer & Jethro. Finding the JC video today reminded me to search for Homer & Jethro. There are quite a few clips of them on various TV shows from the 40s-60s delivering their rapid-fire repartee, hilarious antics and above all, their sheer genius as musicians who were huge fans of Django Reinhart and Gypsy Jazz. Amazing and funny.
It was hard to pick a favourite, because they are all gems, but I chose a color TV show from around 1970, as they execute a deconstruction of San Antonio Rose – a High & Lonesome favourite – and their Grammy Award winning piss-take of Johnny Norton's Battle of New Orleans (a session tune much favoured by Tasmanian blugrass players). Truly post-modern hillbilly jazz and smoother than a shaved eye brow.
