There’s an episode of HBO’s Treme where Steve Earle pays homage to songwriter John Hiatt - Have a Little Faith, and for those who know my repertoire, Train to Birmingham. I thought I’d better have a re-listen and found this gem with Ry Cooder, Nick Lowe and Jim Keltner (George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Joe Cocker). The melody has an epic build over a fairly straight ahead progression with some great minor bridges. Ry plays arpeggio on a dropped D strat. He uses the index finger of his picking hand to maintain a high D. Nice technique. Awesome vocal delivery. I’d like to learn it, but I’d rather steal it.
