The Celtic Woodshed Session
High & Lonesome have been trying on and off to be accepted to perform at the National Celtic Festival, held at Port Arlington on the Bellarine Peninsula on the Queen's Birthday long-weekend in June.
The boys are well-known for their hillbilly bent - playing Bluegrass and Americana Country, but long-time followers will remember that High & Lonesome began more or less as a duo with mostly Celtic material.
Geoff has been playing Celtic material since the days of The Beatles, and there aren't many Celtic bands in Geelong that haven't utilised the wonderful fiddle playing of maestro Matiss Schubert. read more »

My Name is Buddy - another record by Ry Cooder
While listening to ABC Dig Radio over the weekend I chanced to hear some tracks from Ry Cooder's latest CD and its dust-bowl 1930s feel inspired me to promptly place an order with Amazon (not released locally as yet).
My Name Is Buddy is a journey in music, words and pictures of the travels of three unlikely cohorts - Buddy Red Cat, Lefty Mouse and Reverend Tom Toad - as they meander through the west "in the days of labor, big bosses, farm failures, strikes, company cops, sundown towns, hobos and trains...the America of yesteryear." read more »

High & Lonesome top the charts!
OK, so it's only the download charts at www.mp3.com.au and the tracks are free, but at least they're not sending them back!
Slim recently updated the High & Lonesome Artist page at the Australian music download site and added 7 new tracks recorded as a demo for the Maldon Folk Festival.
The charts today put High & Lonesome at #1 on the alt country chart, and #2 on the country chart.
Old Home Place is #1 on the Bluegrass chart and San Antonio Rose #2 on the Country and Western chart. The perennial Broken Wheel Cafe title track is back at #3 on the alt country chart.
The wonder of the modern interwebs!
High & Lonesome go global
With the Woodshed Session freshly produced, Slim checked out mp3.com.au with a view to upload some new material. High & Lonesome's debut CD, Broken Wheel Cafe, was made available there for free streaming and downloading, about two years back. At the time, some of the tracks charted quite well, with an occasional top ten for their alt country genre.
Slim was surprised to find that High & Lonesome were still charting as #3 band in alt country, and nearly fell out of his armchair when the statistics showed that there were 279 downloads in the previous 30 days. Unbelievable! Incredible! read more »
